Freedom: For Believers or Disciples?

by John Tasch

“As He spoke these words, many BELIEVED on Him. Then said Jesus to the Jews which BELIEVED on Him, If ye continue in my word, then are you my DISCIPLES indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” John 8:30-32

We see from these scriptures that there is a difference between being a “believer” and being a “disciple.”  Jesus didn’t say that they weren’t believers but the indication He gave was that they were not His disciples.  We have to move from being a believer into the lifestyle of a disciple.

Many of the “believers” of today’s church are living in bondage instead of the freedom Christ provided. That is because “freedom” was never promised to “believers” but “disciples.”  Jesus said, “If you continue in my Word, then are ye my DISCIPLES, and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  John 8:31-32
